Does anyone plan on watching this show?  Or, has anyone heard anything about it?  It's on Nat Geo Channel tonight.

Quote
Doomsday Preppers explores the lives of otherwise ordinary Americans who are preparing for the end of the world as we know it. Unique in their beliefs, motivations, and strategies, preppers will go to whatever lengths they can to make sure they are prepared for any of life’s uncertainties. And with our expert’s assessment, they will find out their chances of survival if their worst fears become a reality.

I am going to watch it, but I think it is going to paint us preppers as whack jobs.

I know a couple people on it.

Ditto what rook said - typical 'reality' show.
And there are some nut jobs featured in it too.

Oh, and as a prepper or SS type, Uncle Jake says  Embarrassed shame on you for paying for TV

Cry  I still pay for cable.  Hubby would kill me if I cancelled it.  Smiley

yea I watched parts of the show last night.

very interesting seeing the reason behind why they prep.
solar flare grid down---long term hyperinflation---and all that.  everyone has their reasons for it and was interesting on seeing what they did to combat their fears of 'what might happen'

I got some good info from it also.

I am sure that it was edited to make them look like tin foil hatters.

yea BG I got that feeling also.

But being 'kinda in their mindset' but 'I don't go to their level' I can see where they are coming from and can look past that.

I bet the people who don't prep or think this stuff thought they were off their rockers for sure.

That's the real problem here - it makes prepping look crazy when everyone should be a prepper at some level.

Our grandparents were preppers and there wasn't even such a word then.
We've lost some things in the last few generations because people are lazy with the modern convenience society and abundance of credit lines.

When folks ask me why I prep, I ask them why they have insurance.....

The couple w/ the container box house?  All I could think of was that the local govt would hunt them down and slap them w/ all sorts of building code violations.

As for paying for satellite...we don't get any channels here if we don't pay for it.  And our internet speed here isn't fast enough to stream video.  At least that's my excuse.  LOL  If it came down to it, we could do w/out, but I just don't want to if I don't have to.

LOL I hear ya longbskt.

I live a very frugal life but I won't live in a cave without running water, we gotta have some luxuries and comfort.

On the other hand - a friend of mine can't pay his mortgage but he and his wife love them some cable tv (full boat package) and and and  Shocked

Has anyone ever tried storing eggs like the one lady on Doomsday? She said they last for 9 months... I haven't been able to confirm that on any sites.

Jake I just don't understand that either.  Neighbor next door having tons of trouble paying bills.  She got fired, he is in self employed construction and jobs got scarce.....yet we were chatting and her mortgage is $1100 per month WITH an equity loan on the home to the tune of another $500 per month.   $1600 for mortgage AND no income hardly yet she then said she has $223 per month in cable/cell phones.  I died.    Now she is getting unemployment checks which saved their butts (so far).

yet she spends like the dickens.  Bragged she got hubby a (get this) $700 weed whacker.  has a few attachments.  Good gravy.  NO WONDER you can't pay the mortgage  Shocked

people hand money so different it is amazing.   I hear people's finances and cringe sometimes LOL
