1  Homestead Network / Homestead Talk / Thank you for being a friend on: January 13, 2013, 02:36:07 PM
Thank you all for such a wonderful time here.
But now I shall take my leave as I do not feel this is the best place for me to spend my energy or time.

Unlike those of lesser moral fibre, I refuse to skulk away in the night leaving you wondering.
The Straw Bosses know my reasons and they need not be enumerated here - ask them in your own time, privately.

Best of luck to you all, and may all your wishes come true.
Thanks for everything. -Jake

4  Homestead Network / Homestead Talk / Re: What are your weather predictions for this year? on: January 13, 2013, 12:00:23 PM
I think it's going to get cold in late January and early February.

We're about due for another snow or ice storm....
5  Homestead Network / Homestead Talk / Re: What I did today to save money at the homestead on: January 13, 2013, 10:29:34 AM
Changed the furnace filters - hasn't been on yet this year but it's gonna get cold.

Cleaned the ceiling fans

Cleaned the oscillating fan that's up in the corner of the dining room and keeps the temperature stable in here

Grating up 2 more bars of Fels Naptha to make more laundry soap.

Spent the last 3 hours wearing winter gloves and gutting the fridge/freezer and cleaning it out/up.
Had planned to sleep in and rest all day, but this had to take priority.

Put all the ground meat I got yesterday in zip top bags, flattened it out and froze it.
We've been wasting entirely too much stuff by buying and then hiding it in the fridge.

New rule is if it's not for tonights dinner it gets re-packaged, dated, and frozen.

A better organized icebox will help with meal planning and cut down on un-necessary trips to the store too !
Once everything is solid and the temp is stable again I'll sort everything and stack by date.

The next step is to start making my own sausage and grinding my own meat - as inspired by Ggirl's podcast.

p.s. Found a lonely Bud Light in the back, so I had to end it's misery  Tongue

Sorry you lost her Bob.

Things always seem to go in cycles on the farm - hopefully this is the end of this one.

I've read a LOT about Netflix on Linux in the trade rags lately.
iTunes will probably never run on Linux natively - not sure about Wine.

Have a look at this Johnny:
