I must have a fascination with mason jars or something.  I seem to find uses for them everywhere except the woodshop.  Last week or so I made up a bunch of sprouting jars and all that I did was take an old lid and trace the circle out on some old galvanized window screen and used scissors to cut the circle out and stick in the ring for the jar.

I'd say it works just as well as any sprouter I've seen and all it cost was a trip to the shop where I already had the screen.  I had bought an easy sprouter which works fine but that cost $15 (plus shipping) and my DIY version nothing but a few seconds to make.

I suppose the screens and lids will get rusty after a while but it takes less time and effort than making toast if I need to make more.

A picture is worth a thousand words so...

Here's my two sprouters that I've been using the most.  To the left, the white plastic Easy Sprouter I ordered online and to the left, my "sleazy sprouter" made from a mason jar, lid, and steel window screen material.
