Hey johnny Max I am wanting to build me a greenhouse that would use the southern facing side of my barn that gets direct sun most of the day. I want to know if any of you have built one and if you had what would you have done differntly? I am wanting to grow tomatoes this fall and a few other plants. I look forward to hearing from you all have a good day..

I am working on plans for mine. I would frame it out with vertical walls, then angle the roof up to the side of the barn. Make it high enough to walk in. On mine I want to go around the bottom with corrugated metal and cover the rest with clear plastic, then eventually cover it with something more durable. I figure the tin around the bottom will keep varmints out.

Another option that you could try is to dig a trough and mount an angled pane of glass on the top of that. Digging the trough in the ground allows you to take advantage of geo-thermal heat. A friend of mine said that he grew leafy green though the winter using a similar system.

Hummmm... that is interesting... Maybe I need to bury the wall around my green house when I build it. It would be a great insect barrier too. Sad

it's different up here in the northeast. we need to have our foundations below frost line to prevent heaving. That usually means critters arent a problem but using the right material is, as anything below ground is usually exposed to wet/damp/moist conditions, depending on the water table, and has to be resistant to rot
