I can't believe it! I was reading this story at FoxNews...

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/09/03/online-classes-make-it-easy-for-non-virginia-gun-owners-to-get-permits/

And they are talking about getting an ONLINE CHL as a non-resident of Virginia. Apparently, it is allowed in the states mentioned above and at http://www.onlinegunclass.com/ , it only costs $39.99 right now.

Once you pass the online test, you mail in your paperwork to VA State Police and they send back a permit valid in 26 states.

I'm still reading to see if there is a catch. But, since OK is listed, I might be forking over 40 bucks very quickly.

ETA: The other place mentioned in the article, http://www.concealed-carry.net/# , is offering a twofer deal... two people certified for $49.99

It looks legit, but if you get Utah you get a bunch more states, but you can't do that one online.  I have Utah and it is good in PA where I live, plus all the surrounding states from my hunting camp in MD.  As a plus, MD may be getting a new ccw policy.  We will see but all the news I have seen recently has been good.  BTW my GF can get a CCW permit in MD to protect a bag of cash but I can't get one to protect our lives.......  That makes sense, especially because the receipts from the restaurant are INSURED !

Personally, I've looked at all of it, and the application fees and the laws for Oklahoma, and it seems to me that even though the site is legitimate and they are following the law, I just can't take any chance on violating a gun law, since it would have a high likelihood of being a felony and I would stand to lose my ability to own ANY gun, with an unlawful carry violation. So, when I get my permit, I'm going to just do it in Oklahoma, and remove any doubt that I'm in accordance with the law.

I've looked at doing the Florida and Utah thing for many many years.
Recently talked to an NRA instructor friend about it and his comment was "Why bother? Reciprocity is a lot better now."

So I went online and checked, and just about anywhere I'd want to go has reciprocity.

The other thing you have to ask yourself is how often would you go to said places.
My advice would be get it in your state (instead of something risky as you said) and then get non-residents if you do travel a lot.

The first site was down, it said under construction.
but the second one was still working which would be affordable at $49 for two people.
