I found out that Dunn's Fish Farm delivers fish all over to set location on a schedule. They will be at my local feedstore in 2 weeks.
So I called them to get advice of what to stock in my pond, based on its size, depth, current population and the fact that I dump spent grain into it.
She said with, my minnow and crawfish population and the tilapia I just added my pond should do well. The pond is small for black crappie, bur she said as long as I take the larger ones out and eat them as I catch them they should get big.
I am getting:
35 - Black Crappie
175 - Coppernose Bluegill
100 - Channel Cats 3"-4"
100 - Channel Cats 4"-6"
Total cost $159
I don't have to pay shipping and I only have to drive 3 miles to get them :-)
Maybe you should check their site and see if they deliver close to your area.
Who would have thought that they would deliver to Vidor of all places?
http://dunnsfishfarm.comShe said that with all the grain I am adding my pond should produce a lot of meat!
She said that catfish and tilapia will eat in and of course the minnows and crawfish.
She also said that the tilapia normally survive all Winter in Vidor and that is in shallower ponds than mine.
Anyway, I am excited!
