No, not nuclear fish  :'(

I'd keep it a lot cooler in here than this if it was just me and the dog.
Sadly the furnace was turned on last night for the first time this year, and will hopefully be used very little due to my other projects.

My beloved parakeet Herbie was a puffball last night so I broke down and turned on the heat.
That got me to thinking about power outages and how the temp could be turned down a little more.

I get big boxes of Hot Hands at the warehouse club and keep them around for emergencies and when it's frigid.
If there was an ice storm the plan is to put a few of these in the bottom of his cage house and maybe one on the side for snuggling.

After searching on Amazon last night I found this Thermo Perch for $27 and it arrived this morning.
It's toasty warm and hopefully will help him weather the cooler nights now that he's older.

Yes he's spoiled. If you are wondering, that's a silver round in a plastic case - he's a prepper too!

A personal note on bird health:
I've been keeping birds for 15 years and found that all the "urban myths" about drafts and such are not at all accurate if you keep healthy birds.
BooBerry used to live under a ceiling fan and just recently passed at age 11.
