Yeah, still 2 days out, but it's all over our news.  We are right smack in the middle of the projected path of hurricane Alex.  (Personally, I'm hoping it turns more west into Mexico but still is close enough to dump some rain on my poor garden.)

The cities and county precincts are already setting up sand bag filling areas.

I did pick up some extra batteries (since the kids love to play with the flashlights), but other than that, we have everything else we need.  Cheesy  Feels good to be prepared and not stressed out running to HEB for last minute canned goods and water.

Good luck longbskt!  It does feel good to be prepared.

One thing I do for my kids to conserve batteries is buy the little chemical light sticks.  They're not good for manuevering around in the dark but as a little security blanket they are cheaper than them keeping a flashlight on all night.

You're so right!  I always have glo sticks on hand for times when the lights go out. They're 15 for $1 (the bracelet ones) at Michaels.

Hang one of those around each of the kids, and you'll know right where they are.

Saw a bunch of night surfers wearing glowing necklaces so they didn't run each other over in the dark.

We came out, no worse for wear!  Just a few downed branches and lots of rain, but spread out enough that the ground was able to soak most of it away before another downpour.  Some of our friends had flooding, but not real bad.

And, I'm all prepared for the next one since we didn't lose power at all!

Glad you made it thru Undamaged, and thanks all for the tip about the glow sticks. Plus they weigh a lot less than a flashlight and several can be stored in the same space.
